Press Release
Protein Discovery to Make Inaugural Appearance at the 54th ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry
Knoxville, Tennessee, May 17, 2006—For the first time in the company's history, Protein Discovery, Inc., a provider of specialized mass spectrometry sample preparation products and services, will participate in the annual conference of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, opening May 28, 2006 in Seattle, Washington. Protein Discovery's vice president of research and development, Dean Hafeman PhD, will deliver the poster "MALDIPlex™ Automated Parallel Sample Preparation of Biofluids for MALDI Mass Spectrometry." Additionally, company representatives will host a booth during exhibit hours to provide information on their imaging mass spectrometry services for protein biomarker discovery and small molecule localization, and PPS Silentô Surfactant, an acid-cleavable cell lysis and protein solubilization detergent that boosts mass spectrometry signal-to-noise. The company will also preview the MALDIplex™ M5 Sample Prep Station, a new system for preparing 96 MALDI ready protein samples from serum in less than one hour.
"Protein Discovery is unique among the companies at ASMS in that we specialize in solving the sample prep problems currently preventing mainstream adoption of mass spectrometry," said chief executive officer Chuck Witkowski. "Owing to sample preparation complexities, MALDI tissue imaging data were basically unavailable to most researchers until we opened our imaging mass spectrometry service lab. Our PPS Silent® Surfactant solves the background signal problem caused by conventional sample prep detergents and greatly simplifies protein sample clean-up prior to mass spectrometry. And our new MALDIplex system will finally provide serum proteomics researchers with practical and economical rates of sample throughput that they need for biomarker discovery and validation."
The poster "MALDIPlex™ Automated Parallel Sample Preparation of Biofluids for MALDI Mass Spectrometry" will be presented during the meeting's Sample Preparation and Methodologies I session. During exhibit hours, company representatives will meet with attendees in booth space #6 to provide additional information on Protein Discovery's products and services for mass spectrometry sample preparation.
